What’s your digital age?

I’m not a huge Youtuber, I mean, I’ll poke around for a little while if I’m looking for something or there’s a series of videos that catch my eye, but I do watch a lot of TV, and therefor, a lot of commercials. This commercial is one that’s been getting a lot of play lately:

Now once you get past the adorableness of it, you’ve got to realize its implication: If you can’t do these simple tasks, you’re more technologically ignorant than a four and a half year old. Seriously, if you can’t take a digital picture, transfer it to your computer, fix the colors, and email it, your digital age is lower than four.

Advertising is all about making you feel terrible about yourself (a valuable lesson I learned from Dr. Rutledge years ago back at UNCC, seriously, long time ago) and this commercial does that so smoothly and surreptitiously you don’t even notice it. Not only do you go, “Oh, wow. That little girl can do all that!” but you go “Oh, wow. I know adults who can’t do that!” It’s pretty masterful advertising.

And, in the process of looking up this video, I found this one:

And now I get my turn to feel dumb, cause I can’t do that. I’m pretty sure I have the program to do it with, but I’ve never created a panoramic picture from a bunch of pictures. So I guess my digital age is lower than seven. Scary stuff.
