Why couldn't she have been in her 20s?
I made a waitress' day on Sunday. Yeah, I know, I know, CB, how can you say waitress? It's demeaning. We say server now. Fuck that. I prefer the term waitress. Anyway, I was eating lunch at Applebee's, killing time before a movie. My waitress, I don't remember her name, was really good. She kept bringing me new drinks before I had to ask-this is my most important criteria for a waitress, drink refill speed. I remember having the thought, she's one of the best waitresses I've ever had. So I'm eating-Applebee's is great by the way-listening to my Ipod, and I notice a manager talking to the couple at the table across from mine. Between the music I can hear the woman complaining about our waitress. I slyly took off one of my headphones and listened, the woman way saying our waitress had an attitude and was statching things and crap like that. My first impression was that she was trying to run them for a free meal. The manager wasn't really buying it, but he sent them another server. They didn't look entirely pleased when the check came-they hadn't touched it in the twenty minutes between when it came and when I left. After the manager finished talking to them he started to walk away and I stopped him, letting him know that I thought the waitress was one of the best I've ever had, and he quietly agreed. The woman was glaring at me, but she didn't say anything. I guess the manager told my waitress what I said cause she came back over with this loving smile checking to see if I needed anything. She stopped me on my way out to tell me that the manager didn't worry about anything the woman said after I talked to him. She was beaming at me. I didn't realize until today, but I totally could have slept with her. Had she been in her 20s and not 40s, it probably would have occured to me. All in all, it gave me a great idea for a short story. Of course, in the story, she'll be in her 20s.
