More pseudo-intellectual nonsense.
The mind is a crazy thing. If you think about it, everything you've ever seen, heard, thought, etc. is in your mind. You may not be able to access them on demand, the vast majority of them will never be meaningful to you in any way, but really think about that, ever single bit of information that your body has ever taken in has been collected, identified, coded, and filed away in the warehouse of your mind. That's fucking crazy. Even if you break it down into smaller things it's mind boggling-pun intended. For instance, every word you've ever read is in your mind, every phrase, every sentance, every paragraph, all of it. Crazy. It's no wonder that your mind can make so many associations that don't make any sense, like how when you're having a conversation and someone mentions waffles and you'll non-sequitor into talking about Sean Connery because your mind went waffles=fluffy=puffy=Kirby from Nintendo 64=Goldeneye, best game ever=Sean Connery, best Bond ever. And yes, I did just make non-sequitor into a verb, and yeah, I really enjoyed doing it. Anyway, once you realize that about the mind, it kind of makes the idea of forgetting about something, or getting over or past something completely ridiculous. If everything that's ever crossed your path is still in your mind and any bit of it can be brought up by the most tenuous relations, and we have to keep in mind that we're talking about things that you've been conscious of and probably thought about more than once, maybe things that have been important in your life, then hell, how can you ever get to the point where you don't think about something? I guess this is a problem I'm having lately, the things I want to keep out of my mind creep back in on the flimsiest pretexts and I know all it takes is time to forget things, but it happens to us all the time, we'll be going about our day, nothing on our mind, and something will remind us of a memory or thought we had hoped had been expunged from our mind and we're right back where we were when we were thinking about it all the time. It's just fucked up is what it is. I've heard people say the problem with the mind is that memory is faulty and imperfect and completely dependent on our perception, but I'd argue that the problem with the mind is that we remember everything, but we're completely helpless when it comes to why and how we become conscious of what we remember.
