Acting with a buzz.

I don't know what does it, but when we get Eric and Mike together to shoot something the whole process seems like this long trainwreck. We got started last night late and we ended late-I thought it was only 4AM, but when I got home the clock said 4:59. Everything seems to have this herky-jerky feel, we take huge amounts of time between takes, and we lose our focus constantly. Oh, did I mention that we probably have the most fun when it's scenes with Mike and Eric and we always come away with fantastic stuff. Yeah. Last night was no exception, these were scenes we had to reshoot after losing the house location and I think everyone was glad we had to reshoot them because what we got last night was a lot better than what we got the first time. Not that what we got the first time wasn't good, just that this stuff was just damn funny. Mike came up with a great little improvisation that really added a lot to one of the scenes. As Travis bluntly put it, "The funniest guy involved in the movie finally added something funny." That just sounds like the kind of backhanded compliment I would normally say. One of the great advents of modern filmmaking is the ability to shoot scenes out of order and that really came in handy last night. We shot the scenes opposite of their chronological order in the movie, the later one first and the sooner one second, which worked out great cause we had them drinking in the second scene we shot and they were toast by the end. It was pretty great, cause it's a scene where they both kind of need to look like crap and they both ended up with these red, world-weary faces. I was a little leary of letting them actually drink, especially Mike since he's a lightweight, but they pulled it off and it really added a lot to the scene. Ironically enough, while I was writing this, Ben Kweller's "Wasted and Ready" came up on the shuffle on my Itunes. Nice. So of course, after shooting and drinking we had to go to Denny's-my second trip of the day. It was pretty funny when the waitress was taking Mike's order; he turned to tell her and was fairly close to her face, he speaks and she backs up shaking her head, smelling the alcohol on his breath. When Eric and I were leaving Travis' we were talking outside for a minute and this cop called us over to his car and asked us if the house was a duplex and to describe the people that lived in the first floor. It was pretty slick on his part, he was just checking to see if were were sober. So that guy gets a lot of respect cause rather than be a dick and get all in our faces he took a nice route of finding the same information. Anway, I could really get used to this whole filmmaker thing.
