Go see The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
Last night Travis and I saw The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and while it may have one of the most unnecessarily long titles in movie history, it may also be one of the best movies in history. It is phenomenal on every level. The cinematography is nothing short of breathtaking. Brad Pitt was so nuanced and controlled and Casey Affleck was so charmingly creepy. The movie is a marvel and it really is nothing short of a master acheivement in moviemaking. If you look on IMDB, you'll see that the writer/dirctor Andy Dominik only has one other movie to his credit, Chopper. That was a pretty good, intense movie staring Eric Bana, but there was nothing in it to suggest something like The Assassination, plus, it was seven years ago. Maybe he's been working on stuff back home in Australia that IMDB just doesn't keep track of, but as amazing as this movie was, I can kind of see spending seven years crafting it. Some of the scenes are just so beautiful that I can't even comprehend how he made them happen. And the writing, especially the dialogue, is perfect. The longest segments of speech are by the narrator; the simplicity and depth of the dialogue epitomizes the goal of writing. Go see this movie, I can't stress that enough, go see it, you deserve happiness in your life.
