I'm not a musician, but if I was...

Sometimes I really wish I could write songs. I can write stories, poems, whatever, but I'm not a songwriter. I just don't have that in me. In my one film class we watch all these really esoteric, highly literate, symbolic movies and yesterday we watched The Exterminating Angel, which is about a group of Mexican aristocrats who become stuck in a room. There isn't any specific thing keeping them there, they aren't blocked in or anything, there's just a general inability to leave the room. The movie is kind of about the fallacy of etiquette and custom as well as an excoriation of Catholicism, but the director says it's meaningless, which is kind of a load of crap if you ask me. Anyway, at a point toward the beginning the host's wife is off making out with her lover behind his back. She leaves the lover and goes and sits with her husband. They wonder why nobody has left the party and he determines to end it, looking at her and saying, "It's late, and your lipstick is fading." How fucking awesome of a line is that? It's so simple and it implies so much. Man. I'm jealous. Anyway, I think that'd be a great beginning to a chorus of a song. Somebody should write that song for me.
