NERD!
Tonight's episode of The Simpsons sent my nerd meter into the red. Man it was awesome. A new comic book shop opening in Springfield, leading to guest appearances by Dan Clowes (Ghost World), Art Spiegelman (Maus), and Alan Moore, who is arguably the greatest writer in comic book history. Holy fuck! I have no idea how they actually got Alan Moore to do that; he has a severe hatred for all thing Hollywood. I was totally geeked out last year when I saw the episode with Michael Chabon and Tom Wolfe, but that was kid-stuff compared to this one. Back in 2005 Art Spiegelman came to ODU-well, Norfolk really-and talked about the history of comics; it was one of the more memorable and enjoyable presentations I've ever seen. The best was when some guy asked him about the sense of whimsy in his work and Spiegelman goes, "Whimsy? That just sounds so gay." Awesome. Shit, Alan Moore. Do you realize how amazing Alan Moore is? Man, I truly believe Watchmen is the single greatest artistic accomplishment in human history. The Simpsons is undoubtedly the greatest show in TV history for many reasons, but their ability to rake in guest stars in unparallel. The amount of nerdly love and appreication I have for them right now is off the chart.
