Coming to America, maybe the best movie ever.
So for the last, I don't know, five to ten years, Comedy Central has been playing Coming to America about five times a month, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't watch it every time. That's just one of those movies that you can't not watch; it's too good. Eddie Murphy is the man-well, was the man-and this is by far his best movie. There's just so much about it to love. I mean, if nothing else, what else did Arsenio Hall do in his life to justify his fame? (Okay, maybe being the voice of Winston Zedemore on the Ghostbusters cartoon, but that's all.) James Earl Jones is in it! And he's an African king! Eriq La Salle's jerry curl is worth watching the movie by itself. The joke with his entire family leaving activator juice on the couch? Come on, what's not to like about this movie? Louie Anderson as a fast food emplyoee? Poetic justice right there. John Amos as Cleo McDowell ("They're MACDonalds, we're McDowell's.") is just hilarious as the rich douchebag father. Sameul L. Jackson as the gun weilding robber that Prince Akeem takes out with a mop handle? Holy fuck I love this movie. I'm looking on IMDB here, and I didn't even realize that Cuba Gooding Jr. is in it. I mean, he sucks now, but he used to be badass. All this and then you've got Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall dressing up as the guys at the barber shop with the awesome "Ah hah" joke at the end? I don't know how much credit this movie gets, but if it's not univerally heralded as one of the greatest movies in history, then there's just something wrong with the world.
