Juno and JoAnna Lynne

So apparently Mighty Mouse and Corie are both incredibly cool and in-the-know and they told me about a free screening of Juno yesterday morning at the Naro. Well done ladies, cause I freaking loved that movie. It was pretty much awesome; whip-smart, razor-clever, and just damn funny. The language and dialogue was off-putting at first, it's certainly not normal, but it was interwoven throughout the movie and after a while you just accept it as part of the world of the movie. Ellen Page was fantastic again. I've only seen her in three movies, but she's been good in each of them. Even though Hard Candy sort of lost me at the end, it's hard to argue with how great her performance was and as much as X-Men 3 was pretty much a steaming pile of shit, she was super-cute as Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat. (I might be really biased on that one; I mean, any guy that read X-Men comics in the 80s had a huge crush on Kitty Pryde. Rivers Como put her in a song! She was like the comic book version of the girl next door.) I really don't think Michael Cera got enough screen time, but he was just as awkward as you'd expect. I really liked that they didn't use the shaky-cam crap that most movies insist on shoving down your throat, they just set the camera there and let the actors act. Good choice. So yeah, Juno is great and you should go see it right now. Later on last night, Travis and I went to The Jewish Mother to see the lovely and talented JoAnna Lynne sing some X-Mas songs. There were other people there singing too, but we just ignored them, hanging out with Jo, Matt, John, Will, and Kate and watching the Redskins game, until Jo went on. Her cover of John Lennon's "Happy Christmas (War is Over)" was pretty fucking awesome. So was her own song, "Speaking Japanese", but again, I'm probably a little biased on that one. Great song though.

Right back at you. I'm working really hard to get 'Happy X-Mas' to catch on.
