Bests of 2007
Well, it's the end of the year and I figured I'd do the blog-like thing and give a couple of "Best of" lists. Actually, I want to get the mean stuff out of the way, so I'll start with my Five Worst Movies of 2007 list: (These are only the movies that I was unfortunate enough to see) 5. License to Wed, thanks Mom, 4. Ghost Rider, hard to believe there were some worse than this, 3. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, at least we had fun, but man was it terrible, 2. The Heartbreak Kid, Ben Stiller, you are terrible, and the number one worst movie of the year, The Golden Compass, there's just nothing positive to say about that one. Yeesh, those were bad. I did see a lot of really good movies this year, but I whittled it down to my Fifteen Best Movies of the Year: 15. 3:10 to Yuma, an unrealistic ending couldn't ruin this one, 14. Stardust, nobody saw this, and they kind of screwed up Neil Gaiman's book a little, but I loved it, 13. Margot at the Wedding, harsh and wonderful, 12. The Darjeeling Limited, Wed Anderson might never make another Royal Tenenbaums, but I'm Ok with that, 11. I am Legend, this could have been so much higher, 10. Shoot 'Em Up, definitely the most surprising movie of the year, if you haven't please see it, 9. Into the Wild, very beautiful movie, 8. The Simpsons Movie, if Mr. Burns had been the bad guy this might be number one, 7. Knocked Up, it's only funny in the movies, in real life it would totally suck, 6. Superbad, a lot raunchier than I thought it would be but god damn it's funny, 5. 300, I wish they hadn't added a bunch of stuff to Frank Miller's amazing comic, but this movie is badass beyond belief, 4. No Country for Old Men, not the number one movie of the year like so many people want you to believe, but it really is something, 3. Juno, don't we all wish we could be that witty?, 2. Lars and the Real Girl, this is actually my favorite movie of the year, it's just so damn adorable, and the number one movie of the year, not actually my favorite but undeniably the best, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, see this if you haven't, it's amazing. While I'm not as huge into music as I used to be, I still managed to come up with my Five Best Albums of 2007: 5. Plain White T's - Every Second Counts, the one without "Hey Delilah", 4. Meg & Dia - Something Real, harmonizing songstresses, what's not to like?, 3. The Shins - Wincing the Night Away, great album, though maybe not as good as their other stuff, 2. Paramore - Riot, certainly the most enjoyable album of the year, and the number one album of the year, The Arcade Fire's Neon Bible, this album is amazing on a hundred levels, it reminds me of a more global, more filled out version of Bright Eyes' Lifted. I had a hard time coming up with a favorite song for 2007, especially since my favorite song of the year, The Decemberists' "Mariner's Revenge Song", is from last year, but we'll go with Paramore's "Crushcrushcrush" cause I dig it. So I had a blast this year; this is probably the first year in, well maybe ever that I've been able to say that. I've got myself a semester away from finally graduating, I met a bunch of really fantastic people, I lost fifty pounds, I wrote a novel (well, most of one), and I got to start making my movie. We didn't finish making it, because life sucks sometimes, but we're going to. I'm looking forward to 2008; we're gonna finish the movie, hopefully make some more, and I fully intend to dominate the world on the whole. And maybe I'll work on that whole getting a girlfriend thing, or at least having some sex for the first time in mhumhmh.
