First week of class and the Juno soundtrack.
Well, I'm done with my first week of class. I'm only taking four this last semester instead of the six I've taken every other one. An added bonus to the lesser classload is that I don't have any classes on Thursday or Friday, meaning I get a four day weekend every week. Actually, this first one is a five day weekend thanks to my boy MLK Jr. How disrespectful was that? The only bad news in all of this as that I have to read three novels a week for my classes, so most of those four day weekends will be spent reading. I mean, I'm all for reading and expanding my literary horizions, but this is overkill. Luckily, I've read five of the books before so they're going to be getting a thorough skimming rather than a second reading. I don't think I mentioned it on here, but I got the soundtrack for Juno and it's freaking great. Most times when you buy a soundtrack there are a few songs you really love and a few songs you can't stand and some others that are just OK; on this one there are a bunch of songs I really love, none I can't stand, and the ones that I don't really love are all very enjoyable. So that's about all you can ask for in a soundtrack. Kimya Dawson is certainly the star as she's got five or six songs on there, including "Anyone Else But You" which was from her band The Moldy Peaches. The chorus to "So Nice So Smart" is wonderful. The Sonic Youth cover of The Carpenter's "Superstar" is great too, not just as a song but because it reminds me of Juno's line in the movie, "I bought another Sonic Youth album. It sucks! It's just noise." Pretty insightful commentary on Sonic Youth if you ask me. And I don't know who Antsy Pants is, but "Vampire" is just plain fun. Once you hear it you'll be randomly blurting it out all the time.
