ODU Baseball Clinic.
photo

Saturday was the ODU Baseball Clinic and just like last year it was a heck of a lot of fun. The thing that I really appreciate about something like this is getting the opportunity to realize that ODU gets incredibly high quality people to play for them. All of the recent alumni playing pro ball that came back for the clinic and all the current players are just outstanding people. I really enjoy ODU and baseball is one of my favorite things in the world so it makes me proud that our guys are going out and playing across the country and representing us well both on and off the field. Joe Morgan, a Hall of Famer who currently is heard every Sunday night on ESPN, was the keynote speaker, though he didn't really speak much. I don't like him on the Sunday night broadcasts at all, but he was nice to me so I can't complain. Pat Nichols said he was actually the nicest guest they've had since he's been going to the clinics. And as for Pat, well, he's the man. It's just like that. I hadn't seen him since the end of July so it was nice catching up some. He convinced me to change my Spring Break plans a little and come visit him at the Nationals Minor League Camp in Melbourne. It didn't take much convincing, it was like, 'Hey, come down to the Nat's Minor League Camp', then, 'Okay, I will'. Also got to see Kevin Gunter-who's still my new favorite player-who I hadn't seen since last March when I was in Florida. I got him to tell me about playing for Joe Ayrault, who I knew a decade ago when he was playing for the Richmond Braves. Also got to see James Burok, who I hadn't seen since an early season ODU game last year; I just missed seeing him up in Salisbury, but he got called up. He told me all about that day, basically being up for thirty hours and travelling across the country and having to warm up, but then not being put in the game. The minor leagues are glamorous. I met Tyler Belcher, who's with the Marlins in the minors now and, just like an ODU guy, he's pretty cool. So now I'm primed and ready for the start of ODU baseball, less than a month away. Cippy's back this year and they're ranked 25th in Baseball America's preseason pole, so I should be seeing some good baseball. I'd better, since it'll be freezing at the start of the season.
